How the IT Industry is Changing for the Better

I’ve been reading articles about the changes happening in the IT industry, and most of them are confusing and overly negative. Many claim that IT is entering a bad era. However, I believe these changes are actually for the better, even though many companies are trying to resist and cling to old ways. But let me tell you: they won’t succeed.

I’ve been working in this industry for almost 15 years now. As far as I can remember, the IT work environment has always been unique. We start late and end late because many of us prefer the quiet hours, where we can think more clearly. In the IT field, thinking is a must. We constantly solve complex problems, which demands a lot of mental energy.

The pandemic initiated a shift that many didn’t think was possible: working from home in a quiet, comfortable environment. It gave us the freedom to work from different places where we can relax after a long day with activities we enjoy.

Will in-office work remain a thing? In my opinion, yes. For certain tasks that require intense collaboration, like building aircraft or rockets, being together in the office is invaluable for various reasons. In such fields, in-office work can facilitate better communication, quicker decision-making, and more effective collaboration on complex projects.

What Do I Think the Future Will Look Like?

Remote work will dominate. Big companies will be the last to give in to this trend, but they’ll eventually have to adapt by streamlining their processes and eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Agile methodologies, as we know them today, will evolve. Simpler methods like Kanban, to-do lists, and other streamlined processes will take over, making workflows more efficient and less cumbersome.

Asynchronous work will become more common, especially in development. This approach allows team members to work at their own pace and focus on deep work without constant interruptions, fostering creativity and productivity.

Multiple job roles might become the norm. This could help companies reduce idle hours and cut costs while enabling professionals to maximize their earning potential by utilizing their time more effectively.

AI will not replace IT professionals. Instead, it will enhance their productivity. Smaller teams will accomplish more and faster by automating repetitive tasks and handling various other functions that AI can manage.

Product and development teams will work even more closely together. This collaboration will lead to better-aligned goals and more innovative solutions, ultimately benefiting both the company and its customers.

These changes will increase productivity and make IT an even more attractive field to work in. Like any profession, IT has its own set of benefits and downsides. However, it’s clear that the industry is charting a new course toward a promising future.

Key Changes and Their Impact:

  1. Remote Work as the New Standard:
The shift towards remote work will allow IT professionals to work from anywhere, increasing job satisfaction and attracting talent from diverse geographical locations.
  2. Simplified Processes:
As Agile evolves, more straightforward systems will replace complex ones, reducing burnout and improving overall efficiency.
  3. AI as a Productivity Booster:
By automating mundane tasks, AI will empower IT professionals to focus on creative and strategic work, fostering innovation and career growth.
  4. Enhanced Collaboration Between Teams:
Closer cooperation between product and development teams will lead to more cohesive project execution and successful product launches.

In conclusion, the IT industry is undergoing significant changes that are setting the stage for a more flexible, efficient, and rewarding work environment. Every profession has its unique advantages and challenges, and IT is no different. However, with these transformative trends, it’s clear that the industry is moving in a positive direction, creating exciting opportunities for those who work within it.
